IT'S STILL WINTER comfort foods

Peabody did a cool food blog event titled Time to Make the Doughnuts and got over 100 responses. I wouldn't mind trying Orange Drop Doughnuts, Italian Zeppole, Spudnuts (made with potatoes), or baked donuts. There were some recipes from South Africa, Estonia, etc. Pretty cool to see that there are "doughnuts" to be found all over the world.

Soule Mama has a bread recipe that her kids call WHO Bread because of the main ingredients, Wheat, Honey, and Oats.

Pioneer Woman has a few recipes we've tried or want to try. Here are some good ones.

Simply Recipes Salsa Verde Carnitas. Super YUM.

I want to learn how to make good Refried Black Beans. I found a basic recipe on Food Network, but I wonder if there's a better recipe out there.

Can you tell that Mexican food is my favorite comfort food?! What are your comfort foods?

Spudnuts were a traditional food that my Mom would make at least once a year in our family. I guess it has a lot to do with the fact that my parents grew up on Eastern Idaho farms. They are good, but I'm not really a donut fan of any sort anymore. I like Mexican food as well. I cook up enchiladas, fajitas or quesadillas at least once a week for dinner. Those recipes sound good! I'll have to check out some of those links.

My comfort foods are anything with sugar in them. If I get desperate enough, I will eat semi-sweet chocolate chips.

I made Chocolate cake with clumps of Skippy Super Chunk in it last night. I topped it off with Milk Chocolate frosting. It just seemed like the thing to do at the time. I wasn't even is special need of winter comfort food. I usually hate cake. Anyway, we put candles in it and sang "Happy Birthday" even though the next birthday in our family isn't till April. Bella blew out the candles and said, "I love you Mommy!"
